A graph from EnviroMon

28/03/08 | by Jeff [mail] | Categories: Temperature

It's about time we showed some actual results from EnviroMon, so here is a typical graph. I grabbed this directly from today's web page at http://www.picotech.com/dynamic/index.html. It shows nicely how the temperatures in the board room (upstairs in the most exposed corner of the building) and the dispatch area (with its large roller shutter and double doors) drop overnight much more than in other parts of the building.

We have now wired up the whole building with EnviroMon to monitor temperature, humidity and power consumption. The results can be viewed online at www.picotech.com/dynamic. The power consumption is very high. On a weekday we are averaging 100A from each of the three phases. Even when you account for lower power consumption at the weekend, this equates to an electricity bill for the year of around £52,000 !

We also gave the air conditioning system its first service of the year today. The engineers replaced the air filters in all areas. They also switched off the heating in the small unused offices in the marketing and admin area.

11:30am

  • A temperature sensor was added.

Approx 14:50

  • The temperature in the development area was reduced from 21 C to 18 C.
  • The thermostat for the preheat in the plant room has been reduced from 20 C to 10 C.
  • The timers have been changed to heat from 7am to 5pm.
  • Air conditioning downstairs turned on.

Now that the building is monitored, we will be working to reduce our power consumption, most of which comes from the HVAC. The blocked filters that we have replaced today, along with some simple tweaks to the timing, should save £1000s.

These are the new and old air filters. Dark roast coffee, anyone?
